One of the brightest luminaries in the firmament of Islamic theology and scholarship, Shamsul Ulama EK Aboobakcer Musliyar was born at Parambilkadavu, Calicut in 1914 as the first son of EK Aboobakkar musliyar Adiyottil Fathima Beevi Alias Beevi Kutty umma . Elected as the Mushavara Member of Samastha Kerala jam-iyyathul ulama in 1954, EK Aboobakcer Musliyar was its secretary from 1957 to 1996 – Occupying high positions in Samastha Kerala Islamadha Vidhyabyasa Board And Samastha Kerala Sunni Mahallu Federation, the Shamsul Ulama was held in high esteem by Kerala Muslims until his passing away in the wee hours of Monday 19th august. Serving as the principal of Islamic higher education centers Jamia Nooriyya and Jamia Darussalam, holding positions of eminence in the social life of kerala muslims and even issuing fatwas as occasions warranted, EK Aboobacker musliyar, the final word in all religious matters, was reckoned the Mujaddid of the century who won the title of Shamsul Ulama during his life time. Sheikh Basheeru AL saqaf, sheikh Hishamul Burhani , leading UAE Scholars and sheikh Aliyyul Hashimi, Relegious adviser to the UAE president addressed EK Aboobacker musliyar as Alimul Alam (world scholar) during one of his visits of united Arab Emirates in 1989. Completing religious education from traditional Dars under scholars like his own father EK Koyakkutty musliyar, madavoor kunhi mayin musliyar ,kuthubi Muhammed musliyar ,abdul kader falfari, kanniyyath ahmed musliyar ,ahmed koyassaliyathi and puthiyappa abdu rahiman musliyar, tha Shamsul ulama joined Baqiyath at the age of 18. Being trained as a disciples of eminent religious scholars such as Sheikh Adam Hazrath and Abdu Raheem Hazrath and acquiring Baqiyath Degree E.K Aboobacker Musliyar, donned the mantle of the Mudaris at Baqiyyath when he was only 19 and severed the institution in that capacity for nearly five years. Among his 4000 plus deciplin , are eminent personalities like Kottumal Aboobaker Musliyar, ok Zainudheen musliyar, valiyullahi C.M Aboobacker musliyar, k.k Aboobacker Hazrath, E.K Hassan Musliyar, Sayyid Kunhi Koya Thangal ullal, Sayyid Umer Ali Shihab Thangal, Sayyid Hyder Ali shihab Thangal, Prof. K Alikutty Musliyar and Sayyid Muhammed Jifiri Muthukoya Thangal. The grave and erudite scholar Sheikhuna E.K Aboobacker Musliyar, who led a life of saintly simplicity was the guide and guardian of Thawareekaths such as Qadiri and Rifaayi and several other ijazaths. The great Sheikhuna is worldly sojourn came to an end at the age of 82 on 19th august 1996 and he has his eternal rest at Varakkal makham(tomb) among the legendary pioneers of Islamic faith such as the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama founder president Sayyid Abdu Rahman Ba Alavi Mullakoya Thanglal and his fifth grandfather Sayyid Mohammed Hamid Ba Alavi Thangal, who came from Yemen accompanied by the ancestor of Sheikhuna E.K Aboobacker Musliyar, Muhammed Musliyar. The ancestors of Shamsul Ulama, except his father Koyakutty Musliyar, including Muhammed Musliyar are also laid to their eternal rest at Varakkal Makham, Kozhikkode.
Born as the fourth son of Ariyaniyil Alungakkandi Thavalkkuzhiyan Rayin and Nediyirippu Kunhathu in 1931, Thrippanachi Muhammed Musliyar, after preliminary religious education, became a perfect religious scholar under the tutelage of about 16 eminent religious teachers. Remarkably endowed with the power of memory and intellect, Thrippanchi Usthad was a scholar non-pareil who occupied a preeminent position in spirituality. Highly learned in Islamic theology, Usthad devoted the whole of his time and energy for Godly thoughts and deeds and was instrumental in the setting up of ‘Masjid Livah’ and so many other prayer congregation centres. A pillar of support of the needy and the indigent irrespective of caste or community and a staunch follower of Qadiri Thareeaqath of the legendary Sheikh Abdul Kader Jeelani, Thrippanchi Usthad used to offer guidance and relief to many a grief- stricken soul through Jalaliyya Ratheeb, Qadiri Thareeqaths and various ijazas. A strong adherent of the traditional religious rituals and practices of the Muslim community, Thrippanchi usthad was very particular about the upkeep of such observances for the stability of Iman (faith) – A stalwart among the guardians of faith, Thrippanachi Usthad passed away on 26 December 2011 and was laid to rest in the precincts of his own, Thrippanchi Palkkad Masjid Liva.
1996, the year of the Shamsul Ulama’s demise, witnessed the outbreak of a deadly disease claiming about twenty lives in and around of Mundakkulam, a rural village in Kondotty constituency of Malappuram district. Prominent persons of the locality, along with SKSSF and SYS activists approached Thrippanach Usthad under the leadership of Pambadan Saidalavi musliyar and Panaly koya musliyar who were batch mates in Usthad’s dars. Usthad advised the conduct of Jalaiyya Ratheeb and a weeklong religious preaching programme as a remedy to the unfortunate turn of events. The Jalaliyya Ratheeb congregation held in Shamsul Ulama Nagar, got started in the locality under the able guidance of Sayyid Umar Ali Shihab Thangal and Cherusseri Zainudheen Musliyar. Ratheeb continued to be conducted in individual houses of devotees on monthly. Monthly Ratheeb, Andu Nercha and Ratheeb Anniversary are being regularly held in the complex since its miception. The first anniversary of the institution was held along with the Shamsul Ulama Uroos in 2008 with the participation of eminent Samastha leaders. The college admits 30 students every year and is functioning under the guidance and supervision of eminent teachers.
